The Sahyadri College is a reputed premier institute in the Malnad area of Southern Karnataka. The College was established in the year 1940 by his highness King Jayachamarajendra Wadeyar, then Maharaja of Mysore, as an intermediate college. It was upgraded to Degree College in the year 1956 as Government First Grade College. Later on, enthralled by the picturesque of the Sahyadri hills in the region, Dr. K.V. Puttappa (Kuvempu) the first Jnana Peeta awardee and then Vice Chancellor of Mysore compelled the Government to rename the College as Sahyadri College. In the year 1984, it was bifurcated as Sahyadri Arts and Sahyadri Science Colleges.
